Richard (1Robert) Bracewell (Conjecture)

Richard Bracewell was born 1652 in Isle of Wight Co VA. Richard's young life was marked by the death of his father at age fifteen. From this point forward, Richard was a major land owner in Isle of Wight Co VA.

On 1/16/1673 in Isle of Wight Co VA, Richard married Sarah Valentine b. c. 1655. Her surname is not known. Speculation that her name was Valentine comes from their naming their fourth son, Valentine.

By the early 1700s, lands south of Isle of Wight Co VA which are now in North Carolina were opened for settlement. And, White settlers encroached on Indian lands. This resulted in the Tuscarora Rebellion from 1711 to 1713. At the end of hostilities, many more White settlers poured into Chowan (now Bertie) Co NC. Among these settlers were five of Richard's sons--Richard, Robert, William, Valentine, and Jacob.

Richard died after 7/28/1724 in Isle of Wight Co VA when he wrote his will and named his children.
