Mary Ann (1Richard) Greene of Rappahannock Co VA
Mary Ann Greene was born 6/17/1696 in Richmond Co VA. She was the daughter of Ann Hobbs and Richard Greene. Richard, her father died in 1705. Ann, her mother, remained a widow for a considerable time.
On 10/1/1714 John Branham took out a license to wed Mary Ann. And, it is reasonable to assume that they were married shortly thereafter. In December of 1714, Ann, Mary's mother, was wed to Richard Branham, John's father. Legally, John, Mary Ann's husband was also her stepbrother. What at first sight seems strange, becomes clear after analyzing the dates. It was common for the time for widows and widowers to marry. And, an alliance of the Branham/Hobb's fortunes would be most practical.
John Branham and Mary Ann lived the remainder of their lives in Richmond Co VA. But Mary Ann died 12/27/1726 in Richmond Co VA. John would remarry and have more children.
