George Haslock of England

George Haslock was born in about 1620 in London, England. And before 1645, he married an unknown spouse. George is reported to have been a prosperous London merchant.

Sometime before September of 1660, George and family migrated to Rappahannock (now Richmond) Co VA where he purchased land. George made his fortune in America by exporting tobacco, the staple crop of the colony, with the merchants of Bristol back in England.

George's date of death is set from his last land grant on 7/9/1665 and Richard Branham's immigration date by 10/14/1665. These dates are witnessed to by Richard Branham's statement on 9/8/1712.

Old Rappahannock County Deed Book 1656-1664, pp 110-111:
John Sherlock of Rappahannock County, VA sells to George Haslock, merchant, of same county, 200 acres of land on Totoskey creek. Wit: Thomas Liddle, Thomas Robinson, Samuel Cockinge. Sept 17, 1660.
Old Rappahannock County Deed Book 1656-1664, pp 165:
A bill stating that George Hastock (Haslock) binds him to John Peterson of Bristoll, merchant, for 182 pounds of tobacco due 10 of October. Feb. 23, 1661/2.

Old Rappahannock County Deed Book 1665-1677, pp 31-32:
Gov. William Berkely grants 2250 acres of land to Thomas Chetwood and George Haselocke on the North side of Rappahannock County and running along main branch at head of Totoskey Creek called Cross Creek. 9 July 1665.
Richmond Co, VA Misc. Records, p. 75 (Deed Book 5):
When questioning Richard King, “an antient man and old stander in these parts”, they asked “Did you ever hear George Haslock dec’d Grand Father to Tho. Freshwater say that the line which parted his land and the land of Tho. Robinson dec’d went by his clear ground which was under the hill near the said Haslock’s house. . .Richard Branham, “an Antient Man and Son in Law to Geo. Haslock, dec’d, Branham replied “No, George Haslock was dead before I came into the Countrey.” Sept. 8, 1712

Virginia Land Patents, Book 5, p 423:
"On October 14, 1665...Richard Branham received from Charles II, a royal patent of 240 acres in the (Old) Rappahannock County, Virginia...The patent was granted for the payment of five persons from England to Virginia."
