Generation #1

Note: Information on the Taverner and Webb families is conjecture. To date there is no proof that the Taverner and Webb families intermarried. However, there was a familial relationship as proven by existing wills.

Thomas Taylor of Suffolkshire, England

Thomas Taylor was born 1637 in Hadleigh, Suffolkshire, England. Thomas migrated in 1650 to Virginia and was cited as headright for Richard Tye of Charles City Co VA.

Sometime after arriving in Virginia, Thomas married Mary Taylor b. c. 1638. Thomas is found in 1662, patenting land on the north side of the James River near Kings Island. Thomas and Mary lived the remainder of their lives in what would become Richmond Co VA.

Thomas wrote his will in January of 1686. [Will of Thomas Taylor] This will is important to researchers as it connects several prominent families of Richmond County--Taverner, Baylis, Webb, Jones, Coleston, Samford--to Thomas and each other.

Transported by Richard Tye and Charles Sparrow of Charles City Co VA.

On March 20, 1662 Thomas Taylor patented 281 acres of land on the North side of the James River near Kings Island.

1679: The will of Roger Bagwell made bequests to Samuel Samford, Giles Webb, and Thomas Taylor. He named Edward Jones executor. This Roger Bagwell had a brother who inherited the residue of the estate and who was said to be of Aspon, Devonshire, England.
