Councilor John (2Maj. John, 1John) Lewis

Councilor John Lewis was born 11/30/1669 in what was New Kent Co VA. In about 1689, John married Elizabeth Warner b. 11/24/1672 Gloucester Co VA.

Initially, John and Elizabeth lived at Chemokins, the Lewis plantation in King and Queen county. After many deaths in the Warner family, Elizabeth inherited Warner Hall in Gloucester county. And, John and Elizabeth relocated to Warner Hall in about 1700.

John and Elizabeth are buried side-by-side in the beautiful cemetery at Warner Hall.

Warner Hall plantation in Abingdon Parish, Gloucester County. Elizabeth Warner inherited the property through her uncle, Robert Warner.
Pioneer Lewis Families , Vol. 4, p. 74:
Councilor John Lewis, born 1669 and wife Elizabeth Warner. . .moved to Chemokins Plantation in western New Kent Co. abt 1689, having inherited that estate.
Pioneer Lewis Families , Vol. 4, p. 75:
Jan 5, 1695, John Lewis resident of Chemokins, St Peter Parish made Vestryman. John left Chemokins in 1702 to Warner Hall, Gloucester Co VA
Colonial Virginia Register, p. 44:
1704 John Lewis appointed a member of the Virginia Council.

King and Queen County Records:
7 Aug 1704 A commission from John Lewis, Esq., Escheater-General of Gloucester, Middlesex, King and Queen, Essex and King William Counties to Capt. William Jones to be his deputy, and Jones took the oath and was admitted as such. 

Hening's Statutes, VII., p. 377:
Chemokins alias Port Holy, lying in the parish of St. Peters in New Kent county, containing 1,300 acres more or less, and being part of a patent granted to Major William Lewis, was in the possession and seizing of Major John Lewis of Warner Hall in 1717, who deeded it to his son Charles.
