Generation #1

Johannes Conrad Grimm of the Duchy of Wurttemburg

Johannes Conrad Grimm was born 6/1/1716 in Berwangen, Duchy of Wurttemburg. Conditions in the lands which would become Germany forced these ethnic Germans out of their homes and on the dangerous path to America. [Palatinate Immigration]

Purported brothers, Johannes and Andreas Grimm, immigrated 9/1/1736 to Philadelphia PA aboard the Harle. There is a possibility that Egidius Grimm who immigrated on the ship James Goodwill on 9/11/1728 and settled in Bucks Co PA was also a brother.

After arriving in Philadelphia, Johannes settled in Weisenburg Twp in the Allemangle region of Bucks (now Lehigh) Co PA.

Research Note: Allemangle was the ethnic German community situated on the border of northeast Berks county and northwest Bucks/ Northampton/ Lehigh county (vic. Kempton PA). And, records for residents of Allemangle can be found in either county depending on which township they lived in: Lynn and Weisenberg TWP in Lehigh and Albany TWP in Berks.

In about 1739 in Bucks Co PA, Johannes married Maria Elizabeth Frey b. 1723 Bischofsheim, Duchy of Wurttemburg. Johannes died 7/1763 in Northampton (now Lehigh) Co PA.
