Joshua (2James, 1James) Lewis of Southampton Co VA

Joshua Lewis was christened 12/27/1701 in Middlesex Co VA. On 10/7/1725 at Christ Church, Middlesex Co VA, he married Martha Marsden b. 12/7/1702 Middlesex Co VA.

Sometime before 8/1736, Joshua and family migrated to Isle of Wight Co VA where brother Zebulon and his Killbee cousins lived. And by 1742, Joshua is found in Isle of Wight Co records described as "planter."

In 1742 Joshua purchased land in Northampton Co NC. This purchase is important; as this is where his sons would later relocate.

In 1749 Southampton Co split from Isle of Wight. And, Joshua served as Captain of Militia from Southampton Co during the French and Indian War.

Joshua died 1759 in Southampton Co VA, and his will was probated in 1760.
