Research Note: The first proven member of the Fry family of Newton TWP, Licking Co OH is Henry Fry b. 1813 in Ohio. And from the 1880 census, we learn that his parents were born in Virginia. Having failed to find historical references and/or records which precede Henry, this research starts again by looking at gravestones in the surrounding communities. [Fry Research Notes]

Henry (³Peter, ²Johannes Peter, ¹Peter) Fry of Licking Co OH

Henry Fry was born 1812 in Ohio. Possibly in Bennington Township.

On 9/8/1836 in Licking Co OH, Henry married Elizabeth "Betty" Bullock b. 4/7/1815 Shenandoah Co VA. (From the 1850 census we learn that Betty was his next-door neighbor.)

Henry is first found documented in the 1840 Licking Co Census. Without records, there is no proof. But, I believe Henry inherited the family farm in Newton Township from his father. And in the 1850 Census, Henry and Betty are found living next door to Betty's parents in Newton Township.

In the 1880 Licking Co OH Census, we learn that although Henry was born in Ohio, and both of his parents were born in Virginia.

In 1897, Betty died at their home. Perhaps the elder Henry wasn't up to living by himself and relocated to his son's home. Henry died 12/12/1899 at the home of son, Lewis Napoleon, in Richland Co OH. Henry and Betty are buried in North Lawn Cemetery, Utica OH.

Mrs. Fry, mother of John W. Fry, of Granville, died at her home at Utica, Ohio, Saturday morning [7/10/1897]. Mr. Fry and family attended the funeral which occurred Saturday afternoon, the remains being interred in the Utica Cemetery.
