Elizabeth (1William) Jackson
Belief that Nathan and Elizabeth were the parents of Mary J. Smith comes from circumstantial evidence. In the 1860 Franklin Co MS Census, the widow Miriam is found living next door to Thomas Burke. His daughter, Margaret, married Perry J. Case in 1869. Perry's mother was Mary J. Smith, and Miriam is reported to have been the last wife of Nathan Smith. Did Margaret Burke meet Perry when he came to visit his grandfather's house?
