Ellen "Nell" (2Michael, 1William) Maloney
Ellen "Nell" Maloney was born 3/18/1863 in Douglas Co IL. Ellen migrated with her family to Denison, Crawford Co IA in 1865. Ellen is first found in the 1870 Crawford Co IA Census, enumerated with her parents.
Ellen is next found in the 1880 Ringgold Co IA Census, living with her Aunt Margaret, listed as "niece/servant" and where she met Edward Dennis Mullin. Evidently, there were too many children in the Michael Maloney household after the death of the father, and the older children went out to make their own way in the world.
On 10/5/1886 in St. Rose of Lima Church, Dennison IA, Ellen married Edward Dennis Mullin b. 4/11/1860 Woodland Twp, Decatur Co IA. Why was it important for Dennis and Ellen to travel all the way back to Denison to be married? Did the family require the mother's consent? Or, did Ellen move back home, and did Edward have to chase after her?
Ellen and Dennis farmed on land in Ringgold Co IA which they leased from the Shays. And, Ellen died 2/14/1940 in Maloy, Ringgold Co IA.
