John (1Johann Balthazar) Sager of Pennsylvania

John Sager was born in about 1750 in Neunkirchen, Darmstadt, Duchy of Hesse. John is believed to have immigrated in the company of his siblings to Philadelphia in 1761 aboard the Snow Squirrel.

Sager Sibling Immigration:
1. Johann Peter Sager immigrated on 8/24/1750 aboard the Two Brothers to Philadelphia PA
2. Gabriel Sager immigrated 9/24/1754 aboard the Nancy to Philadelphia PA.
3. Johann Wilhelm, Johann Conrad, sister Elizabeth Margaretha and 11 year-old John immigrated 10/21/1761 aboard the Snow Squirrel to Philadelphia PA. 
-Johann Wilhelm and Johann Conrad are found on List C: the signers of the Oath of Abjuration.
-Elizabeth Margaret didn't sign; as she was female.
-John didn't sign; as he was a minor.

John lived in the Philadelphia/Bucks County area until his migration to Loudoun Co VA. In 1776 a John Sager is found as witness and executor of Stephen Durenberger's estate in Morris Co NJ. Note, until 1753, Morris County extended all the way west to the Delaware River in the vicinity of Bucks Co PA. [Great Wagon Road]

In 1777 in Loudoun Co VA, John Sager married his neighbor, Mary Barb b. 1761 in Hunterdon Co NJ. On 11/19/1779 Jacob Barb purchased land near Stony Creek in Shenandoah Co VA. And, John and Mary migrated along with the Barb Family.

After settling in Shenandoah Co VA, John and Mary migrated before 1789 to Hardy Co (W) VA where the majority of their children were born. John died 4/1833 in Hardy Co VA.

Hardy County (W) VA Minute Book #7 (1785-1812), Page 289:
John Sager is appt guardian to George Kidner orphan of Geo Kidner decd. An infant under the age of 14 years thereupon the Sager gave bond security according to law.

"10 October 1826 by and between Absolom Sager and John Heishman, Junior of the one part and John Sager, Senior of the other part all of the county of Hardy and state of Virginia." John Sager, Senior has sold land to the two men. John Heishman bought 71 acres, 3 roods, & 7 1/2 poles where John Sager has resided and the residue sold to Absolom except John's dwelling house and about 3 acres of land (202 acres). Absolom is to pay 1/2 of John's expenses from the illness of John's recently deceased wife [Mary Barb] and all of her doctor bills. John Heishman is to clothe, feed, care for John in good and poor health, and take proper care of a horse for John's use (replacing the horse if it dies) for the rest of John's life.
