The Newark Advocate January 26, 1877
Mrs. Sarah Miller whose maiden name was Sarah Wilkin, was born in Hardy Co. Va., January 17, 1795, died January 16, 1877. Consequently, had the brittle thread been lengthened to her one day more she would have been eighty-two years old.
She joined the German Presbyterian Church at the age of 19 years. She was united in marriage with Jacob Miller in March, 1817 and immigrated to Licking County in the fall of the same year and settled on the same farm upon which she died, making a continued residence of more than 59 years. Deceased was the mother of ten children, eight of who still survive. Of grandchildren she had 50, 40 of those are living. Of great-grand children she had fourteen. Few, very few who have lived so long and done so little hard [harm?]. Few who have been more universally respected by friends and neighbors through a long and useful life which was spent in a retired and unassuming manner from which she seemingly passed peacefully away.
The grim death had no terrors for her, but rather welcoming the hour when her change should come, that change which inevitably awaits us all. "Therefore, be ye also ready, for in such an hour as you think not, the son of Man cometh.
The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. J. B. Moore from Revelations 22nd Chapter and 14th verse.
