Thomas (3Thomas I, 2Isaac, 1William) Case II of Franklin Co GA
Thomas Case II was born 1769 in Tryon Co NC (now Union Co SC). Thomas did not have an easy childhood; as his father died before 5/25/1784 when Thomas would have been only fifteen years-old.
His mother, Sophia, remarried after the death of his father. And, the combined family migrated to Pendleton (now Pickens) Co SC. In the 1790 Pendleton Co SC Census, Thomas is listed as Head of Household for the Case family.
In about 1791 in South Carolina, Thomas married Melissa Tannehill b. c. 1770 in South Carolina. Evidence of Melissa's birth in South Carolina comes from their youngest daughter, Mary, in the 1880 Copiah Co MS Census.
Thomas and family are reported to have been members of a community known as the Nathan Smith Settlement which was located in the vicinity of Hollingsworth, Franklin (now Banks) Co GA. The dates for this sojourn are set from 1792 when son John was born and 4/1822 when son Thomas married Elizabeth Minyard in Lawrence Co MS.
Sometime before 1820, Thomas and family migrated to Lawrence Co MS. The family should be listed in the Georgia Passports, but documentation has not been found to date. Thomas is not found in the 1820 Lawrence Co MS Census. However, son James is found with a female over age 45. From this record, reasonable conjecture leads to the belief that Thomas died, and son James is listed as Head of Household for the family. Evidently, mother Melissa was living in the house along with her son and her younger children.
If Thomas lived to migrate to Mississippi, he would have been buried in the family cemetery which was later donated to Macedonia Baptist Church in what is now Lincoln Co MS.
