Generation #5

Thomas (4Thomas II, 3Thomas I., 2Isaac, 1William) Case III of Copiah Co MS

Thomas Case III was born 1798 in Franklin (now Banks) Co GA. Proof comes from the 1850 and 1860 Copiah Co MS censuses. Thomas and family are reported to have been members of a community known as the Nathan Smith Settlement which was located in the vicinity of Hollingsworth, Franklin (now Banks) Co GA. The dates for this sojourn are set from 1792 when brother John was born and 4/1822 when this Thomas married Elizabeth Minyard in Lawrence Co MS.

Sometime before 4/1822, Thomas and family migrated to Lawrence Co MS. The family should be listed in the Georgia Passports, but documentation has not been found to date.

On 4/4/1822 in Lawrence Co MS, Thomas married Elizabeth Minyard b. 1805 in Georgia. Evidence for Elizabeth's maiden name comes from her son being named James Minyard Case. Additionally, a John Miniard is found living with the family in the 1850 and 1860 Copiah Co MS Censuses.

Thomas and Elizabeth lived their lives on land which would become Lincoln Co MS. Thomas died sometime before the 1880 Lincoln Co MS Census. Thomas and Elizabeth are reportedly buried in the old family cemetery which their family donated to the local church and is now known as Old Macedonia Cemetery of Lincoln Co MS.

Old Macedonia Cemetery located on Highway 550 W. about 1/4 of a mile east of Loyd Star School. The land where the cemetery is located at one time belonged to Thomas and Elizabeth (Minyard) Case. Macedonia Baptist Church was organized in 1851 on their land and in 1858 they "sold" the land to the Church. The building burned in the 1930's and today it is located on Macedonia Church Rd. a few miles from the original location. The old cemetery is still there behind a chain link fence and is very visible from the road. There are numerous Case family members buried in the old cemetery and a lot of unmarked graves. Some of the older community members told me there are more unmarked Case graves outside of the fence on the back side in the woods.
