Nicholas (²Nicholas, ¹Nathan) Smith of Georgia

The identity of the progenitor for this Smith family is not proven. Research indicates that he was a descendant of the Smiths from the Nathan Smith Settlement of Georgia. At present, the best candidate for this person is Nicholas Smith of Franklin Co MS.

Nicholas Smith was born in about 1772, probably in North Carolina. In about 1791, the Smith Family migrated to Franklin Co GA. And, Nicholas' father was enumerated at the Nathan Smith Settlement.

In about 1813, Nicholas migrated to Franklin Co MS. And, the family was enumerated in the 1820 and 1830 Franklin Co MS censuses. As no further records are found, Nicholas died sometime after 1830.
