John (5William, 4James, 3James, 2James, 1Edmund) Lewis

John Lewis was born in 1775, probably in Culpeper Co VA. And, he would have been a second generation pioneer pushing west of the Cumberlands, settling the lands of the Ohio Valley.

On 12/31/1978 in Woodford Co KY, John married his first cousin, Nancy Claxton. Nancy was the daughter of Tomesone Lewis and Joshua Claxton.

Two Lewis men are found in the 1800 Woodford Co KY Tax List, William and his oldest son, Fielding, along with Fielding, James Edwin and John's father-in-law, Joshua Claxton. Not appearing in the Tax List indicates that the younger boys may have still been in their father's household even though John had been married for about a year by that time.

John died before 1840 in Woodford Co KY.
