Dorothea "Dora" (5Henry, 4James, 3Joachim, 2Heinrich, 1Heinrich) Wiese of Davenport IA
Dorothea "Dora" Wiese was born 7/18/1879 in Probstei, Scott Co IA. Dora's parents were highly successful farmers who retired early and moved to Davenport.
By the turn of the century, Dora and her parents were living on Marquette Street in Davenport in a neighborhood known as Nordwest. Within easy walking distance were German speaking churches, the Turner Hall, and German stores. It is said that you could live your life in Nordwest without ever having to speak English.
On 5/7/1913 Dora married Wilhelm Fritz Stamer b. 10/3/1884 Schinkel uber Kiel, Duchy of Holstein. Wilhelm was a recent immigrant from Germany who was not comfortable with English. Naturally, he gravitated to a community where German was spoken. Wilhelm and Dora lived in the home of her parents. And after their death, Dora inherited the house.
Wilhelm and Dora lived on Marquette Street until Wilhelm's untimely death in 1932. Dora survived Wilhelm by nearly 38 years. She is buried in Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport IA.
